In today's increasingly digital world, cyber security has become one of the most pressing concerns for individuals, businesses, and governments alike. In this context the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Central University of Jammu, under the mentorship of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Sanjeev Jain, organized an highly insightful workshop on "Cyber Security: Current Trends and Future Perspectives" on 13th March 2025. The workshop was sponsored by the Entrepreneurship Skill Development Programme (ESDP) Scheme, Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of India and conducted under the guidance of Dr. Dinesh Kumar, HoD, CSE with coordination of Dr. Suresh Limkar, workshop coordinator and faculty member. The session featured Dr. Sparsh Sharma, Assistant professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering, NIT Srinagar & Dr. Dinesh Kumar R, Assistant professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, NIT Srinagar and nodal officer for Ministry of MSME Design, IPR & ESDP.
Dr. Sparsh talk emphasized several key aspects such as need of cyber security, various types of attacks, possible measures to avoid cyber-attacks, AI-driven cyber defense establishment and the future of cyber security will likely to be shaped by AI, quantum computing, automation, and a shift towards more integrated, proactive defense strategies. Dr. Sparsh demonstrated simulated attack scenarios, gaining firsthand experience of how to defend against potential threats.
Dr. Dinesh highlighted the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME), Government of India as a key driver of innovation, entrepreneurship, and economic growth in India. He emphasized the ministry's role in supporting startups through financial, technical, and policy assistance, essential for their growth. Dr. Dinesh also discussed the significance of Intellectual Property Rights and shared examples of his successful funded projects in areas like technology development, capacity building, and product innovation.
The session concluded with an interactive Q&A, where Dr. Sparsh and Dr. Dinesh addressed queries from students and faculty. Participants left the workshop with a deeper understanding of cyber security and how to navigate the increasingly complex world of cyber threats and with the knowledge to better secure their data, networks, and systems.
