The Himalayan High Altitude Atmospheric and Climate Research (H2A2CR) Centre of Central University of Jammu is nestled in the heart of the North-Western Himalayas (NWH). Atmospheric and climate data from the NWH is crucial for understanding regional climate variations, assessing climate change impacts, and developing effective mitigation and adaptation strategies, particularly in this vulnerable region with fragile ecosystems and dependent communities.
Two observational sites of H2A2CRC include (1) Mandlote (~2250 m amsl), Udhampur and (2) Main Campus (~ 500 m amsl), Rahya Suchani, Samba. The high altitude observational site of H2A2CR Centre is located in Village Mandlote, District Udhampur, J&K. This location is away from pollution hotpots and provides free tropospheric air flow. The unique location of H2A2CR centre at hill top offers unparalleled opportunities for high-altitude research particularly in the domain of aerosol-cloud interactions. This state of the art facility is going to be monumental in understanding atmospheric changes, enhancing weather forecasting, assessing environmental impacts and boosting disaster preparedness in this region of the Himalayas.
