School of Business Studies organised Industry Academia Outreach Industrial Exposure Visit

School of Business Studies  organized Industrial/exposure  visit  for the students of the Department of Marketing & SCM and Department of HRM and OB to local industrial units. The objective of the  Industrial visit was to provide students an insight regarding internal working of industry and practical learning in a real-working environment.he students visited T. V. Super Filter Industries, located at NH 1A, Jalluchak, Jammu. The industry specializes in manufacturing and exporting of automotive industrial filters and is one of the leading suppliers to General Motors, International Tractor Ltd., Mahindra, Fleetguard, Gulf Lubricants, Lamborghini, etc. The company is the recipient of the coveted ‘Rajiv Gandhi National Quality Award’, which is one of the top most awards in India for quality management systems.

A batch of 30 MBA-MM, 26 MBA and 45 MBA (HRM) 2nd Semester  students visited the site and met the production team, field supervisors and other departmental officials. The visit to the industry started with an orientation presentation by the Mr. Taranveer Singh Gujral, the founder Director of the unit and and the winner of J&K State ‘An Ideal Industrial Enterprise’ award in 2010,

 He enlightened the students about concept of Quality Circles, Team work, efficient management of 4 M’s and implementing a Japanese Concept for continuous improvement i.e. ‘Kaizen’.Mr. Taranveer Singh Gujral, interacted with the students and shared his journey of success in making TV Super Filter Industries as one of the benchmark company in J&K and further explained the assembly line production of filters.Earlier he spoke about the importance of sense of ownership – turning up as problem solvers, employee involvement at operational level efficiencies, the concept of ergonomics and achieving customer delight through excellence of service & cost control. The visit was informative and full of practical insights about export business and marketing strategy. The students felt motivated about their entrepreneurial skill development and were enlightened about the realities of industrial setups.

This was followed by interaction with office bearers of BBIA wherein President BBIA and Secretary interacted with students and faculty members. Students were apprised about opportunities available locally and skill set required for placement in these industrial set-ups.Afterwards students visited Jai Beverages.Mr Sunil Ruhela, General Manager HR, Jai Beverages Private Limited briefed the students/faculty members that Jai Beverages is one of the leading manufacturers from Jammu Region in soft drinks, mango juice, mix fruit juice and drinking items. After the brief overview of the functioning of the company , the students were taken for a plant visit showcasing the various processes involved in the manufacturing and filling of carbonated beverages that include processing, filling lines, bottling, packaging and warehouse.This was followed by a visit to Uflex Limited. At Uflex students  interacted with senior executives of the company followed by plant visit to understand the manufacturing  process.Last but not the least students visited JKEDI wherein interactive sessions on Starting and Registration of an Enterprise  were discussed at length besides students were sensitised about funding opportunities available for the same. This marks the culmination of a day-long visit to local industrial units.

It was an endeavour by the two departments to take more than hundred students for industrial visit in five different organizations of repute namely- TVS Super Filters, Jai Beverages Ltd, Uflex Ultimate Ltd, JKEDI and Bari Brahmana Industrial Association, Samba. The students were enthralled to observe how industries put theoretical management knowledge into practice. The learning during exposure is anticipated to go a long way in translating the classroom lectures into more viable industry oriented solutions for students. The Industrial visit took shape under the overall supervision of the Head Department of MSCM and HRM & OB. The purpose has been to provide functional exposure to students in the industrial sector so as to understand best practices being adopted by the companies in the region. Dr. Neelika Arora, Ms. Anjali Pathania, Dr Salil Seth, Dr Anju Thapa and Mr. Kohit faculty members of Department Human Resource Management & OB and Department of MSCM coordinated the industrial visit.
