About the E- Workshop

Research as a systematic and critical investigation needs a clear understanding of methods and methodology which are imperative in view of the enormity of task.  Research when used in literary studies, means a systematic investigation and study of materials, sources, etc. in order to establish facts, analysis and interpretation of literary texts to arrive at conclusions. Altick’s use of the term enlightenment in order to define literary research resonates the sense in which Kant and Foucault take ‘ enlightenment’ as a person’s gradual maturity from a state of dependence to a being entirely self-independent and self- reliant.  Understandably, in literary studies text-based research and textual analysis have defined literary research for decades. Nevertheless, in view of emergence of  new approaches over the past few decades, traditional forms of literary research has proliferated in different directions .

Since research is a discipline-specific process which assures us that ‘frontiers before us have no limits’, it also emphasizes on the methods, conventions, and critical frameworks specific to particular academic areas. Taking a cue from this, the three-day E- workshop aims at familiarizing the scholars with the specific aspects of the research in literary studies. The workshop further aims to introduce the young scholars to primary research methodologies specific to research in literary studies and will also enable them to critically engage with various components of research.
