NPTEL. Awareness Workshop on

Central University of Jammu today organized One Day NPTEL Awareness workshop in its campus in which about 105 delegates from various Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) of the region participated. The workshop mainly deliberated on NPTEL and its features, NPTEL Online Certification courses and the concept of NPTEL Local Chapter. The Inaugural session of the workshop was chaired by Incharge Vice Chancellor Prof Devanand, who in his Inaugural Speech appreciated the efforts of the organisers for organising this workshop. He called upon the faculty to come forward and take the quality initiatives for strengthening the digital initiatives of Government of India and to encourage more students across the institutions to strengthen their learning and career paths by joining the online courses through the available platforms .

He congratulated Dr J N Baliya.(SPOC) by taking up this initiative about the conducting the workshop in which Prof. Satyaki Roy, National Coordinator , NPTEL, Ms. Angana Sengupta and Mr.Ajay from IIT Kanpur were present. Prof. Satyaki Roy, the Key Resource Person, enlightened the participant about NPTEL establishment and objectives. He informed the participants that the National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL) was initiated by seven Indian Institutes of Technology (Bombay, Delhi, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras, Guwahati and Roorkee) along with the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore in 2003. NPTEL has been offering self-study courses across engineering, humanities and science streams for more than a decade. From March 2014, NPTEL has been offering online certification for its courses, the highlight being the certification exam through which the student gets an opportunity to earn a certificate from the IITs.


Earlier welcoming the delegates and sharing the purpose of the workshop, Dr J N Baliya (SPOC,NPTEL) informed that the (NPTEL) has established its LOCAL CHAPTER in Central University of Jammu for building the desirable climate of digital learning in the region and also to encourage the young generation to upgrade the skills and knowledge by joining the venture of NPTEL courses network.


Ms.Angana Sengupta another expert from IIT Kanpur spoke about the modelaties to start a local chapter in any institution and also role of SPOC (Single Point Of Contact) in the context of NPTEL. At the end of workshop doubts of participant addressed by the Prof Satyiki Roy and his team. The Vote of thanks were presented by Dr Ritu Bakshi.
