An ICSSR sponsored two day National Seminar On National Policy on Education: Reflection on School Education has been organized by Department of Educational Studies, Central University of Jammu, under Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya National Mission on Teacher and Teaching (PMMMNMT). More than hundred educationists, administrators, teachers, scholars and students have participated in the seminar on its first day. The inaugural session of the seminar was graced by Chief Guest Sh. Sunil Kumar Sharma, Minister of Transport (independent charge), Government of J&K, Prof. Ashok Aima, Vice Chancellor, Central University of Jammu, Professor Lokesh Koul ,Professor Emeritus H.P University , Shimla , Professor S. K.Yadav, former Head and Dean Department of teacher education NCERT, Professor Lokesh K. Verma, Dean & Head of Department of Educational Studies, Central University of Jammu; others who are presented the heads from different department and the faculty members of department of educational studies namely Kiran , Dr , Dr. Parmod Kumar , Dr. J.N.Baliya, Dr. Ritu Baskhi and Dr. Aman.

Mr. Sunil Kumar Sharma, Honourable Minister of Transport, Government of J&K, recalled Vedic educational system and in the light of Vedic education he stressed on inculcating professional ethics among the teachers and dedication and sincerity among the students. He also recollected the contribution of great educationalists of India and stressed on the Moral education. He realised the importance of Moral education and emphasised that it is pre request for the country for becoming world leader. Earlier Professor Lokesh K. Verma, Dean & Head, Department of Educational Studies, Central University Of Jammu in his welcome note highlighted the importance of education for the development of nation. He also recalled the radical improvement in the education system of country since independence.

Professor S.K.Yadav, former Head and Dean Department of Teacher Education NCERT in his address stressed upon the role of education in national building. He realised the importance of various post independence educational committees and commissions for the improvement of educational system of the country.Professor Lokesh Koul, Professor Emeritus H.P University , Shimla in his address quoted the “SABKA SATH SABKA VIKAS”. He gave emphasis on the access, equity, inclusion and relevant type of education. More specifically to the state of Jammu and Kashmir, he recalled the contribution of Maharaja Hari Singh in Compulsory education, adult education and girl education.

Professor Ashok Aima, Honourable Vice Chancellor of Central University Of Jammu, emphasised on that type of education for the children which refine their character and liberate their minds. He also stressed on local need based education, character building education and that educational system which develop competitive spirit and dignity of labour among the students. The gusts were facilitated with mementos and garland. The whole inaugural session was hosted by the Dr. Ritu Bakshi, In the end the formal vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. J.N.Baliya.

After the inaugural session the seminar went ahead with technical sessions where some thematic and empirical papers presentation were organised divided in eight technical sessions spread in two days. On the first day, Pre Lunch Session was held in two parallel technical sessions .One technical session was jointly chaired by Prof. Lokesh Koul, Professor Emeritus H.P University, Shimla and Prof. Renu Nanda, Head of education department , University of Jammu wherever almost ten paper were presented. Other parallel technical session was jointly chaired by Prof. G.M. Malik, Formal Head from University of Jammu and Prof. Darshana, Dean Faculty of Education, University Of Jammu where almost twelve papers were presented having various themes.

The post lunch sessions were chaired by Prof Kiran Deep Kaur from Punjabi University , Patiala and Prof S K Yadav from NCERT New Delhi. Where about 28 papers were presented by the delegates drawn from various states . Various issues were intensively deliberated and discussed such as Ensuring Learning Outcomes in Elementary Education, Extending outreach of Secondary and Senior Secondary Education, Strengthening of Vocational Education, Reforming School Examination Systems, Revamping Teacher Education for Quality Teachers and New pedagogies and approaches at school education level.
