Celebration of Wildlife Conservation Week

In connection with the 65th Wildlife Conservation week celebration, the Department of Animal Sciences & Wildlife & Department of Plant Sciences of Central University of Jammu organized a one day workshop here today in collaboration with the Department of Wildlife & Protection, J&K, The Indian Sciences Congress Association, Kolkata-Jammu Chapter and the Wildlife Conservation Fund, Jammu & Kashmir.

The workshop inaugurated with the lightening of ceremonial lamp by the dignitaries and welcome address by Prof. N.K.Tripathi, Head Department of Animal Sciences & Wildlife & Department of Plant Sciences.  The Chief Guest of the programme was Prof. Lokesh Verma, Academic Coordinator of Central University of Jammu while Sh. R.S. Jasrotia, Retd. IFS, J&K Forest department, Sh. A.K.Gupta, CCF J&K Forest department, Sh. Upendra Pachnanda, Retired IFS, Dr. Ranvijay Singh, Head Department of Zoology, GGM Science College Jammu and Sh. Nadeem Qadri, Environment Lawyer were among the dignitaries invited for the guest lectures.  

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Lokesh Verma deliberated upon the relevance of wildlife, conservation & its significances; he said that wildlife protection is the need of the hour and on behalf of honourable Vice Chancellor he extended his full support and cooperation for such workshops, seminars, conferences related to wildlife & plant life protection, conservation & management.

Sh. R.S. Jasrotia spoke on the “human-animal conflict: manifestation & resolution”. While Sh. Upendra Pachnanda deliberated upon the man-animal conflict & animal rights.  Sh. A.K. Gupta gave a detailed talk on the wildlife department of J&K and about the poaching of animals. Dr. Ranvijay Singh presented his lecture on wildlife conservation and Sh. Nadeem Qadri discussed about the animal conservation through his presentation & short documentary film.  

Apart from the lectures, on spot Rangoli, Painting, Slogan writing and Quiz competitions related to the wildlife were organized for undergraduate students. The workshop concluded with the prize distribution among the winners of the competitions were declared by Dr. Anjali Dhar, Assistant Professor, Department of Animal Sciences & Wildlife and in Rangoli Competition students of department of Botony wins the 1st prize they were Mohit, Harsimar, Monica and Yogesh, while the 2nd prize wins by department of Zoology students they were Ananya, Humera, Anuradha and Parul and in the 3rd Prize achieved by students Physics  department they were  Riya, Aneeqa, Anchal & Eisha. In the Slogan writing competition Aisha & Arzana both department of Zoology wins 1st & 2nd  prize whereas Mokshi Sharma student of department of Chemistry wins the 3rdprize. In the On Spot Painting Competition the students of department of Botony Ms. Neha & Ms Sanchi achieved 1st prize while students of department of Zoology Ms.  Kanika & Ms. Sabah achieved 2nd prize and Ms. Maanvi & Ms. Shakti both department of Chemistry achieved 3rdprize. In the quiz competition Asshad & Akansha wins 1st prize while Mohit & Saksham wins 2nd prize.

The proceedings of the workshop were conducted by Dr. Shivatambri, Assistant Professor, Animal Sciences & Wildlife, Dr. Vinita Sharma & Ms. Stanzin Ladol both department of Animal Sciences & Wildlife were also present on the occasion.
