Department of Tourism and Travel Management of CUJ holds Tourism Week Celebrations OJAS

The Department of Tourism and Travel Management, Central University of Jammu organized the inaugural function of Tourism Week Celebration namely OJAS that is commencing from 20th of September 2016 and culminating on 27th September i.e. the World Tourism Day.


The inaugural function of OJAS was graced by honorable Vice Chancellor Prof. Ashok Aima as the Chief Guest of the event was Shri S. M Sahani convener INTACH Jammu Chapter, Guest of Honour and Prof. Lokesh Verma, Academic Coordinator, CUJ as well as other dignitaries from the various departments of the university. Dr. Jaya Bhasin , HoD, DTTM, delivered the formal welcome address. She gave a brief on the activities which will be conducted in the Tourism week. The various activities of OJAS include Photography, Collage, Poster Making, Quiz, Slogan Writing, Debate, Nukkad natak, Documentaries , Rangoli, heritage walk , Road Side Wall Painting, Folk Dance, Folk Song; and Leadership Development Camp which is to be held in Manali, H.P . The OJAS started with Photography, collage and poster making competitions.


Prof. Lokesh Verma congratulated the coordinators of the event, Dr. Poonam Sharma and Dr. Bharti Gupta along with students and faculty members for having planned a weeklong celebration and taking an excellent initiative that would help students and scholars to gain self awareness about their potentials and talents.
Shri S M Sahni shared his experience of the changing scenario of tourism in J& K which ranges from pilgrimage tourism to various others forms of like adventure tourism, wellness tourism, etc. He emphasized on promoting cultural heritage tourism in the state. He sugesseted that the university should come up with department for conservation and preservation of intangible heritage of J& K and rest of India. He also exhorted students that they should more emphasis on field work to gain first hand exposure to become a successful tourism professionals. The honorable vice Chancellor Prof. Ashok Aima expressed his gratitude towards the spirit of shri Sahni for his dedication towards the field of tourism. He emphasised the importance of tourism in the society which provides employment to people and empowerment to the different sections of the society. He encouraged the students to travel the different places of Jammu and Kashmir and apprise themselves with the history and culture of their state. The formal vote of thanks was delivered by Mr. Gowhar Rasool. Dr. Bharti Gupta was the master of the inaugural ceremony.
