The Central University of Jammu was represented at the United Nations’ fifteenth session of the Committee of Experts on Public Administration of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) which was held at the U.N. Headquarters, New York from 18 to 22 April 2016. It was attended by sixty-seven member states and thirteen UN agencies.

The 15th session of the United Nations Committee of Experts on Public Administration (CEPA) meeting, the first since countries unanimously adopted the new 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda in September 2015 focussed on as to how public institutions and policies can enable the governments to undertake the transformative actions that are necessary to implement the Sustainable Development Goals. Well-functioning institutions are considered as the cornerstones of sustainable development and are essential for achieving positive results in health, education, agriculture, trade, environment and all other areas where public service plays a role.

The main subject for discussion was “Transforming Public Institutions for Integrated and Inclusive Policy making and review of Sustainable Development Goals” sharing the responsibilities between the national and the local Governments.

 The Central University of Jammu was represented by the faculty members Dr. Rouchi Chaudhary, and Dr. Paul Sugandhar, Assistant Professors from the Department of Public Policy & Public Administration who attended as Observers from India.

The faculty members also met Ms. Marion Barthelemy, Secretary-General Division for Public Administration and Development Management (DPDM) United Nations and presented a Momento on behalf of the Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. Ashok Aima and discussed the possible ways for further strengthening the areas of cooperation with the United Nations.
