International Women day

The Central University of Jammu celebrated International Women’s day at TAB, Sainik Colony, Jammu by organizing a Multi-lingual Mahila Kavi Sammelan. SPARSH, Central University in collaboration with Jammu & Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL) organized the event wherein various eminent poetesses of the region participated and various issues like gender parity, women education, women empowerment and many other were highlighted.


Ms. Anjali Sharma, Director, Doordarshan, Jammu was the Guest of honour for the occasion. Prof. Ashok Aima, Honourable Vice Chancellor, Central University of Jammu was the Chief Guest and Dr. Arvinder Singh Amn, Additional Secretary of the Academy coordinated the event on behalf of JKAACL. Prof. Rita Jitendra, Former secretary, Jammu & Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, a renowned social activist honoured the event with her presence.


Delivering her address, Prof Rita Jitendra underscored the importance of women empowerment in the society and said that the initiatives taken by the pioneering agencies are worth appreciable. She said that such programs on special occasions definitely play vital role in the women society in encouraging women fraternity as far as their empowerment is concerned. She extended her thanks to both of the organizations in holding this meaningful program on the eve of International Women’s Day.


Ms. Anjali Sharama, Director Doordarshan, Jammu also spoke in length who appreciated the JKAACL and SPARSH, Central University of Jammu for this activity which may play an important role in the life of women society.
Prof Ashok Aima, Honourable Vice Chancellor, Central University of Jammu, while speaking on the occasion, informed that Central University of Jammu works with the mandate of providing gender parity to all its stakeholders. He emphasized that the collaboration with JKAACL would further be strengthened and a culture of promoting art and literature would be nurtured at the University. He further exaggerated that this special activity being jointly done by SPARSH and JKAACL will definitely make the majority of female students sitting over here in the auditorium, to recognize their power in the society.


Earlier, delivering his welcome address, Dr A.S. Amn thanked SPARSH, Central University of Jammu for extending its continuous assistance in making this program a grand success.


Those who recited their poetry on the occasion were Smt Sunita Bhadwal, Vijaya Thakur, Saroj Bala, Promila Manhas, Usha Kiran Kiran(Dogri), Smt Surinder Neer, Isha Badgotra (Punjabi), Dr Aruna Sharma, Anita Mehta, Yogita Yadav, Shivani Anand, Smt. Neeru Sharma(Hindi), Fozia Mughal(Urdu), Kahlida Parveen(Gojri), Santosh Shah Nadaan(Kashmiri).


Dr Neelika Arora, Assistant Professor, Central University started the program with a brief note about the program and Smt. Rita Khadyar, Assistant Editor, JK Academy conducted the proceedings for the day. Dr.Shaveta Kohli, member SPARSH, Central University of Jammu coordinated the event. Dr Jaya Bhasin, Chairperson, SPARSH, Central University of Jammu delivered a formal vote of thanks.
