Two days workshop entitled Reforms in Evaluation at school level organsied by Centre for Assessment

Centre for Assessment and Evaluation, School of Education, Central University of Jammu organized two days workshop entitled “Reforms in Evaluation at school level” on March 29-30, 2017 under PMMMNMT centrally sponsored scheme at Central University of Jammu. In the inaugural session, Prof. Lokesh K. Verma, Dean & Head, Department of Educational Studies welcomed all the resource persons- Prof. Lokesh Koul, Emeritus Professor, H.P.U. Shimla, Prof. Avtar Singh, NCERT, New Delhi, Prof. K. Srinivas, NUEPA, New Delhi, Prof. S.K. Yadav, NCERT, New Delhi, Prof. Sangeeta, Department of Education, Kurukshetra University, Kurukshetra, Prof. Renu Nanda, Dept. of Education, University of Jammu, Chief guest of the function- Madam Babila Rakwal, Director School Education, Jammu, teachers of secondary & senior schools, all the faculty members- Dr. Kiran, Dr. Parmod Kumar, Dr. J. N. Baliya, Dr. Ritu Bakshi & Dr. Aman & scholars of Department of Educational Studies. Prof. Lokesh K. Verma highlighted the purpose of the workshop, problems in examination system and also discuss the need of reforms in evaluation at school level. In his key note address Prof. Avtar Singh, NCERT, New Delhi discussed the various issues and concerns in evaluation process and told how can we trained the teacher in better way so that they can improve the quality of education. Afterwards, Chief guest of the inaugural function, Director, School Education, Jammu, in his address said that evaluation is very important to improve the quality of teaching-learning process and this workshop will be very useful to the school teachers to make them aware about new innovative evaluation strategies and how to use them at school level.
In the first day of the workshop (March 29, 2017), Prof. K. Sriniwas discussed the pedagogy based free open software for effective students evaluation and he also gave hand on experiences on various open software useful in evaluative practices like MOODLE application. Prof. S.K.Yadav, NCERT highlighted the need of reforms in evaluation at school level. With the help of evaluation, we can see the strength and weakness of any policy or programme and improve the quality of education. Prof. Avtar Singh discussed the ‘Concerns and initiatives in education'. In the last session of the first day of the workshop (March 29, 2017), Prof. Lokesh Koul discussed the importance and relevancy of ‘Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation' at school level. He elaborated the steps and objectives of CCE with lively examples. All the participants actively participated in the session and also discussed their real field difficulties faced by them during evaluation process and Professor Koul satisfied their queries and told that CCE is very important to improve the quality of education and achieve the required learning outcomes.
In the second day of the workshop (March 30, 2017), Prof. Sangeeta discussed ‘Modification and accommodation in evaluation procedures for learners with diverse need needs’ and conducted practical exercise with schools teachers. Prof. S.K. Yadav described the ‘Reforming evaluation system through teacher education’ and he also discussed the various recommendations of commissions and committees with special reference to teacher education in general and evaluation at particular. Prof. Avtar Singh conducted a practical session on the development of a balanced question papers. In the last session of the second day of the workshop (March 30, 2017), Prof. Renu Nanda conducted a session on ‘Innovative practices and strategies for evaluation & examination’ at school level and she also discussed the various innovative strategies may be used at school level to improve the quality of education.
In the Valedictory function, Prof. Lokesh K. Verma, Dean & Head, Department of Educational Studies welcomed key speaker, guests and participants. Prof. Lokesh Koul delivered his valedictory address and highlighted various issues and concerns in evaluation process and described how teachers can play their active role to improve the quality of evaluation through CCE and other innovative techniques. After that Dr. Aman presented a formal vote of thanks to all participants. All the faculty members of the department - Dr. Kiran, Dr. Parmod Kumar, Dr. J. N. Baliya, Dr. Ritu Bakshi, scholars and students of Department of Educational Studies were present in the valedictory function.
