Training programmes for Horticulture Officers concludes at CUJ

The Two day training programme on Post Harvest Technology and Marketing Strategies for the Horticultural Produce” organized by the Community College, Central University of Jammu concludes here at Temporary Academic Block (TAB), Sainik Colony, Jammu.The Training Program was organized by Community College, Central University of Jammu, in collaboration with Department of Horticulture Planning & Marketing, Jammu. This programme was organized under the patronage of Prof. Ashok Aima, Honourable Vice Chancellor, Central University of Jammu. The focus of this training programme was to equip the officers in Post Harvest Technologies for value addition and reducing the crop losses.


Sh. Daljit Chib, Vice Chairman, J&K Kissan Board was Chief Guest on the valedictory function of the training programme. Mr. Singh assured full support of Kissan Board for the benefit of farmers of Jammu region and also requested the participants to suggest measure to reduce Post Harvest losses. He impressed upon the participants to adopt innovative marketing strategies for marketing farmers produce. Later on, he distributed the certificates and felicitated the participants.


Participants in their feedback proposed that in each block zero energy cold storage be set up to minimise the losses of perishable items. The technique has been developed by the researchers of SKAUST-Kashmir and the financial implication for setting up the same is just Rs 10000/- which would help the farming community. They appreciated the efforts of CC, CUJ for organising the training programme and cited that they have learnt a lot from this two days rigorous training programme. They requested Central University of Jammu to organize these kinds of programmes in future as well.


Prof. Lokesh Verma, Academic Coordinator and Principal of Community College, CUJ, in his address informed the gathering regarding the importance of the event. Earlier, Dr. Jaya Bhasin, Member Board of Management, Community College formally welcomed the august gathering and informed the gathering about the various initiatives taken by the community college for the development of society at large. Dr. Shaveta Kohli and Dr. Shahid Mushtaq, Coordinators of the event also delivered a session during the day. Dr. Neelika Arora proposed a formal vote of thanks.
