CUJ celebrates National Science Day

On the occasion of National Science Day, Central University of Jammu organized a motivational and inspirational talk by the eminent speakers Prof. Ashok Ganguly from IIT Delhi/Director INST Mohali and Prof. Y.D. Vanakar from Department of Chemistry, IIT Kanpur at its Temporary Academic Block, Sainik Colony here today. The theme of National Science Day celebration -2017 was “Science and Technology for specially abled persons.”
Prof. A.K. Ganguly during his key note address laid emphasis on the nuances of Nano Science, material science and molecular biology and he further asked the students that whatever you do in your life whether it’s science or some other field, you should excel and make a mark in life.
Prof. Y.D. Vanakar in his address threw light on the synthetization of molecular and organic compounds and the role what they play in the routine life of a common man. He also stressed on the importance of discovery made by Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman which we know as Raman Effect and to mark this National Science Day is being celebrated each year on 28 February across various academic institutes of our country.
In his presidential remarks Academic Coordinator of CUJ, Prof. Lokesh Verma praised the efforts of the faculty members taken in mobilizing the funds for the promotion of Science by bringing various research projects to the newly established departments. He further said that to inspire and motivate the Science students this day is celebrated across the country.
Earlier, Prof. S.K. Khosa, Head Department of Nano & Material Sciences in his address, said that objectives of celebrating “National Science Day” is to popularize the contribution of science for betterment of the people. He said that Science has revolutionized our day-to-day life and whatever wonders we see only because of Science which has made our life much easier.
Dr. Pankaj Mehta, Asstt. Prof. of Environment Science Department presented formal vote on thanks in the programme while Ms. Akansha, Ms. Aisha, Ms. Eisha and Ms. Riya compered the proceeding of the programme.
In the second session if this program MIER college of education which is first inclusive school in Jammu under department of Special Education for children with special needs (mild disabilities) displayed their art and craft works and performed various activities. They presented a token of memento to Prof. S. K. Khosa.

The programme was organized by the Newly established Department of Sciences of CUJ i.e. Department of Nano Science & Materials, Physics, Chemistry, Zoology, Botany and Centre for Molecular Biology and Deptt. Of Environment Science, Deptt of Mathematics & Deptt. of Computer Science were also involved. In the programme Dean, Heads, faculty members, research scholar and students were present.
Various events being organized on the occasion of National Science Day includes Poster presentation, oral presentation, quizzes and Science models by the students from various departments of Sciences. Finally Honorable Vice Chancellor Prof. Ashok Aima, Central University of Jammu apprised the audience and distributed the prizes among the participants of each scientific events.
