7th Academic Council of CUJ

The meeting of the 7th Academic Council (AC) of Central University of Jammu (CUJ) was held on 30th November at its Main Campus, Raya Suchani, Bagala, to deliberate on the important Academic issues of different departments of CUJ. The meeting was attended by Prof. Varun Sahni, former Vice Chancellor of University of Jammu & sitting Vice Chancellor of Goa University along with Mr. Nitin Jhamb, Representative of National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), Deans and Heads of various Departments of Central University of Jammu.

The important issues discussed were relating to the adoption of new syllabi of new programs started from the session 2016-17, course work of Ph.D for various disciplines, renaming of the Department of Plant Sciences to Department of Botony, Department of Animal Sciences & Wild Life to Department of Zoology and Department of Sociology & Social Work to Department of Social Work. The certificate course on Yoga and other short term skilled courses have also been approved to be started in Central University of Jammu.

Review of ordinances was also put up before the AC for its approval wherein the new guidelines of UGC for conduct of Ph.D programme, new guidelines of UGC for appointment & promotion of teachers under 3rd & 4th amendment notified on 11 July, 2016 besides other ordinances were also adopted & recommended for final approval of Executive Council.

Earlier, Prof. Ashok Aima, Vice Chancellor of Central University of Jammu in his welcome address gave a synoptic overview & glimpses of the achievements, distinctions and awards attained by CUJ in last one year. He also informed the Council about the new initiatives & proposals which are in its final stage of clearance like establishing of Department of Earth Science, Department of Computational Mathematics and Department of Space Technology. He explained the members about the MOU’s entered with Melborne University and Institute of Chinese Studies. He further reiterated his resolve to provide opportunities to students to make them competitive & competent to meet the global standards.


Vice Chancellor laid emphasis on adding skills and entrepreneurship in all disciplines to make the students as self-reliant. Two new Centers namely Center of Chinese Studies and Centre of Afghanistan & Pakistan has been approved to be set up under National Security Studies. The members were also apprised by the Vice-Chancellor about Competitive coaching classes which were organized for the first time in CUJ with overwhelming response from students.
